I created this map a while back so I could see which US states go to which consulate to help out others with any confusion.  Understandably, Los Angeles and New York are the busiest consulates and take more time to go through the process, but you must go to the consulate that is in the jurisdiction in which you reside.  I think the only way around that is to move to a different state.
